Get Connected with your Favorite Cars

>> Monday, November 30, 2009

It’s been four years since I’ve been dreaming of having my own car. I’ve been hesitant, though, because of the high cost of owning a car and the insurance premiums that come with it. My husband said it would be fine with him if I got my driver’s license and bought a car, but my frugality will not allow it. I just haven’t been able to bring myself to spend the money. However, I am beginning to grow tired of not having a license and my own car. Without my own car, I’m not able to go anywhere without my husband and toddler son with me. There are plenty of places I wish I could go by myself, and just leave them home. My husband is great about driving me wherever and whenever I need, which is so nice of him, but sometimes I would just like to go to the store or visit a friend without having to wait around for him to get home. So, I have recently begun to defy my stubbornness, and search online for a new car and found some nice cars from The Car Connection.

The Car Connection is an online website where you can search a wide selection of great cars, like the lexus ls, or the ford escape, cars from GM, Chrysler, Audi, BMW and more. I love this website because you can review each vehicle, look at photos, and really get to know a lot about the cars you are interested in, which makes it so much easier to decide which one to buy. The Car Connection has all kinds of information regarding things like value, consumer opinion, expert reviews, financing, insurance and more. It’s like the Wikipedia of cars, or a wiki cars site. I found the volkswagen new beetle convertible at The Car Connection. I learned all about it, found it in red, looked at financing and insurance rates, etc. I realized it could actually be an affordable, quality vehicle. Perhaps, if I play my cards right, it could be a nice little Holiday gift from my husband. I’ll need to test drive it now, of course, but all the work of finding the right vehicle is done just by visiting The Car Connection. So, if you’re looking to purchase a new vehicle, visit The Car Connection today.

Mellow Yellow Monday:

It's Monday and it is time for Mellow Yellow Monday meme.

MellowYellowBadge

Today, I am going to share what I bought last Friday for a black Friday shopping which I have found at Bath and Body Works store nearby. An American Grown fresh hand soap. I love its smell because it is very refreshing and it is perfect for our kitchen. It has nothing says summer like fresh-cut Meyer lemons from Florida. Sweeter than other lemons, they are plump, smooth-skinned and an unmistakable dark yellow. This is the best, as I love lemon scents. It smells just like a fresh lemon, but a tiny bit sweeter. Plus, you can only use a little bit, and it is already soapy which I like because then I can able to last it that long.

Now they were on sale at Bath and Body Works!

Favorite Fruits

>> Sunday, November 29, 2009

It's time for my Seven Sunday meme and this week's topic is: Name your seven favorite fruits.

When it comes to eating fruits, I always love to make choices. There are some certain times, when I feel like to eat fruits that I never ate before. It is just so weird, but for all time, here are my seven favorite fruits.

1. Atis ( Sugar Apple) - The atis fruit has a scaly skin. The fruit is almost round and about 10 cm wide. It is called a 'sugar apple'. The taste of the flesh of the ripe fruit is slightly sweet and soft. The many black pips are scattered through the flesh of the atis.

2. Peach - a fruit that bears an edible juicy taste.

3. Rambutan - according to wikipedia: the fruit is a round to oval drupe 3–6 cm (rarely to 8 cm) tall and 3-4 cm broad, borne in a loose pendant cluster of 10-20 together. The leathery skin is reddish (rarely orange or yellow), and covered with fleshy pliable spines, hence the name rambutan, derived from the Malay word rambut which means hairs. The fruit flesh is translucent, whitish or very pale pink, with a sweet, mildly acidic flavour.

4. Pineapple -
the common name for an edible tropical plant and also its fruit.

5. Lansones- a small bearing fruit, but it taste really sweet. It is the common name Filipinos have given to the fruit of the plant, Lansium domesticum (scientific name). This plant is cultivated in tropical climates in Southeast Asia, South America and India. Oh, I miss eating this fruit!

6. Mangoes - Who doesn't love mangoes, especially the ripe ones called Manila and Alfonso. I loved it!

7. Last but not the least, Papaya or
Tree Melon. The papaya is a short-lived, fast-growing, woody, large herb to 10 or 12 feet in height. It generally branches only when injured. All parts contain latex. The hollow green or deep purple trunk is straight and cylindrical with prominent leaf scars. Its diameter may be from 2 or 3 inches to over a foot at the base.

How to Greet?

On this week's Snackie Sunday question is: HOW DO YOU NORMALLY GREET PEOPLE?

~ Well, I usually say, “Hi, how are you?" and they just say they were good and asked back. But sometimes, they are the ones who asked me how I am doing, and then I would replied, "Doing good" and asked them the same question. Usually it happens when I go to store and the cashier would ask me.
If I am with family, I usually asked how they were doing with an embrace. My husband’s family always embraces each other or hugs each other before and after goodbyes which takes me a while to get used to it. I don’t know but I guess, it was just a part of their family culture. As for me, it was a good thing because touching someone sometimes makes a big difference.

Turkey, Lights, Change, and Invention

It's Friday and it is time for Four For Friday meme! Thank goodness I am done shopping!

Q1 - Turkey: If you had to pick the biggest business, political, or celebrity turkey of 2009, who would it be and why?

~ The biggest business turkey of 2009 would have to be cash for clunkers. This clunker of a strategy actually did nothing it was supposed to do. Foreign auto companies benefited a lot from it, and American jobs were neither saved nor created.

Q2 - Lights: If someone driving toward you has his car's high beam lights on when you feel they shouldn't be on, do you ignore it or do you flash your lights in an attempt to get him to turn them off?

~ Well, it's not easy to ignore high beams searing in my eyes, but I never flash my own lights at someone on the road. What I do when someone is coming at me with high beams is keep my eyes on the shoulder of the road so I can still see where I'm going until they pass. Especially if we're on a dark lonely country road at 1:00 AM, with no other traffic around, and high corn fields on either side of us. The last thing I would want to do in this situation is flash my lights and risk making some hick town local named Buckshot Billy angry at me.

Q3 - Change: When you pay for an item at a store and the amount due comes to something and change (e.g., $5.47), do you attempt to pay the exact amount (i.e. do you dig around in your purse or pockets to find the 47 cents), or do you simply pay with bills and pocket the change for later on? If you're not the kind to pay with exact change, how do you feel about the people in front of you who do?

~ I am the type to dig for exact change, and what's more, I get agitated when I don't have it and have to break a bill. My husband is the complete opposite. In fact, he never even carries cash, or change. He pays for everything with a card. He says it's faster. He is funny when we are together and I pay for something in exact change, and I can tell he is getting restless, wondering if we will ever leave.

Q4 - Invention: If you could invent something that hasn't been invented yet, what would you invent?

~ If I could, I would invent a car that drives itself. It would have a built in GPS, that I would just type in where to go, and the car would do the rest. I wouldn't even need a driver's license. I could just sit back, relax and talk to the other people in the car all along the way. Plus, this would eliminate the need for auto insurance companies, because if computers are driving all our cars, then accidents would be rare, because computers will follow all the rules of the road. In fact, the entire road system could be computerized, so if a car does break down or malfunction, a main server computer could be alerted by a signal from the car's computer, and in turn notify all other cars in the area of the hazard ahead.

Life Thanksgiving Expressions

I really enjoyed my Thanksgiving this year, as I do every year, but this year just seemed like a better time. There were a lot of things that made it better. One thing, and it’s kind of a small thing, but it made a huge difference, is that we headed to my sister-in-law’s earlier in the day than we have in the past years. Usually on Thanksgiving Day, we hang around our house longer, get ready slowly; watch a little bit of the parades on TV, that sort of thing. But this year we didn't do any of that. In fact, because we just moved into a new house, we don't even have cable TV yet, and couldn't watch the parades. So, the difference this year is, we arrived very early at my sister-in-laws, about 1:00 p.m., and we were able to sit and relax, and talk with our family members and friends for a long time, while sipping egg nog and pop, and eating chips and nuts - it was actually very relaxing and pleasant. Before, we woke up late, took our time getting ready and arrived just before dinner, and it was kind of hectic. But this year, we really had a good time with our family.

But that’s not even the half of it. In the morning after Thanksgiving we went shopping for Black Friday at 5 am. Me, my mother-in-law, and my sister-in-law went to Bed Bath and Beyond, Kohl's, Target and Toys R Us. Then, we even went to the mall, and went to who knows how many stores there. It was fun and it was actually the first time I went Black Friday shopping. Fun, but very tiring, as well. After only getting about 5 hours of sleep, we shopped all day long, walking here, walking there, and fighting crowds and long lines. I was ready to collapse. But, that was a really fun change this year, too.

I am really looking forward to Christmas.

Longest Road Trip and Weird Questions

Q1: What's the longest road trip you've ever taken or been a part of? Did you enjoy the drive or was it a pain in the you-know-what?

~ The longest road trip I have ever taken was about 1100 miles, and 18 hours. We drove to Daytona Beach in Florida. We enjoyed the drive very much, especially when going through the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee. The mountains are so beautiful, and at that time of year, which was summer, everything was lush and green. I also liked driving through Atlanta, GA on the way to Florida. It's a huge city, with tons to do.

Q2: How old is the oldest person you now know or have ever met? Would you like to be as old as that person?

~ The oldest person I know is my husband's Grandma Virginia. She is 91 years old, and she is still walking, and still cooking in the kitchen. She's Italian, from Sicily. Well actually, her parents are from Sicily. She was born here in America - first generation American in her family. I guess I would want to get that old, and older. I want to live a long time, and see a lot in this world.

Q3: Earlier this week, 91-year-old W. Mark Felt revealed to the world that he in fact was 'Deep Throat', the man who frequently met with Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein in Washington area parking garages to confirm information or fill in gaps from other sources related to the Watergate affair. Felt, who at the time was the second in command at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), is being hailed by some as a hero, while others say he violated the ethics of the law enforcement profession by talking to a newspaper rather than turning his information over to a grand jury. W. Mark Felt... hero or not?

~ I'm sure the Washington Post reporters paid a lot more for Felt's information than a grand jury would have, so, in my opinion, Felt is no hero. He is just an agent who made some money on the side selling insider information. Who knows why he did it. I've heard he was friends with one of the reporters. I just think he should have practiced better judgment, because a friendship should not cause you to leak insider information. That's just wrong.

Q4: Do you like your feet? Are you comfortable wearing open toe sandals, or do you prefer to keep your little piggies covered up at all costs?

~ Yes, I like my feet just fine. I often wear open-toe shoes and sandals. I use a special scrub for my feet that sloughs away dry and calloused skin, and it makes my skin soft on my feet. Plus, I do a self-pedicure regularly, and paint my nails. So, I actually make a point to wear open-toe shoes, sometimes, to show off all my hard work!

Daily Routine

Last week on Friday Question is: What’s your morning routine? How long does it take you to get ready for work or a day at home?

~Well, first thing in the morning after I got up from bed, I went to the bathroom and do things I needed to do such as fixing my hair. I never do my make up unless I need to go somewhere or change my clothes from the night I went to bed. I just have them until noon then I will go and changed clothes.

Then, went to my kid's room and check on him. Then, I went to the kitchen to prepare our breakfast and then after, I will I check my email. Next, I read the news, the narratives, commentaries, and blogs about current events, domestic and global. Then, I log on to Yahoo Messenger to see if anyone is online. Finally, I begin to blog on my websites.

Sometimes, the first thing I do is upload any photos off my camera I may have snapped the day before. I am always snapping photos, either with my phone, or my digital camera, so I always have to put them on my hard drive. Or else, I just go right to the internet.

Mostly, I do blogging or maybe do blog hopping. I will visit some of my favorite blogs and join some giveaways and contests online.

Loathe Household chores

This week On Snackie Sunday question is:

WHAT HOUSEHOLD CHORE DO YOU LOATHE THE MOST?

Honestly, I hate cleaning the bathroom tub and floor! I wish there's really a maid who can able to just pop up or a genie that really cleans the bathroom and shows up after we used them to prevent the mold and water scums. I also noticed that it really hard to keep the bath tub clean and even the toilet clean. I find it really annoying that's why I don't really clean the bathroom tub or even the toilet that much or even regular times because in the end, I know it will get dirty again.

Then, I need to buy these bathroom and toilet cleaner just to clean up all these molds and water and soap scums and it was really hard because I hate scrubbing and even keep them clean unless I clean my feet first. Really, it's too much work!

Sepia Scenes of ThunderBirds

>> Wednesday, November 25, 2009

It's my first time to join Sepia Scenes, a weekly meme where you can able to change your favorite photos and change it into a sepia mode and share it to everyone.

Now, I am going to share some of pictures that was taken a few months ago, when we went off to watch an Air show at Selfridge, MI. And there the famous Thunderbirds made a show. They were so awesome and I can't get enough taking photos of them. They were so fast, but good thing I caught some snap shots of them which also my favorite ones.

Click the photo to enlarge

All I did was to choose a color tint sepia fadeout except with the focus.

Are you looking for ways to keep your child safe at home? Then, you might want to check out this website where you can find a wide selection of quality made baby proofing products and some child safety tips that will help ensure your child’s safety. I found this website and I was amazed at their large selection of child proofing products, everything from medicine safety items, baby gates, a toilet safety lock, to baby monitors, bed rails, crib safety items, and a whole lot more. There are ways to keep your children safe I never even thought of, not only in the child's designated areas at home, but also in areas of the house where it can be risky for them. KidSafe offers a wide variety of safety products and methods for keeping your kids fully safe at home, guaranteed.

For us, when it comes to our son, Josh, we always make sure he is safe no matter what, even though at some point he’s out of our sight. So to ensure his safety we always put safety plugs on each of our outlets at home, wooden bed rails on his toddler bed, even a night light so he can walk safely, if he decided to get up out of his bed. We also attached a sliding cabinet lock on each of our lower kitchen cupboards, and a Load Washer Dryer Lock in our dryer to make sure he is not going inside of it. He is such a very observant kid, and he always wants to explore and try new things, therefore, kids safety products are a must in our home. Now, I am looking for a safety product for our stove, since he is taller now and even more curious than before. So, I was looking around at the KidSafe website, and I found a stove guard to prevent burns. I am so excited about it and I can’t wait to tell my husband.

So, if you are looking for Baby Gates or child safety locks products for your baby or toddler you, too, might want to check out the KidSafe website, where you will be able to find the best products available from brands like Safety 1st, KidCo, Evenflo, Aquatopia, Mommy's Helper, Cares, and more. Random Questions for Thanksgiving

1. From the turkey and stuffing to all of the fixin's... Who's cooking your Thanksgiving dinner this year? What dish are you most looking forward to?

~ My sister-in-law, who lives an hour north of us in a river community, is cooking Thanksgiving dinner this year for the whole family. My sister-in-law loves to cook, and she is good at it. The dish I am most looking forward to is her homemade pumpkin pie! It is the best! With a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side, there is nothing like a warm and spicy slicey of pumpkin pie!

2. Black Friday is known for its deals and steals. What items are you hoping to find in the stores this Friday?

~ I want to find a great deal on Aquadoodle for my son, Joshua. Also, I am looking for pajamas for Joshua, and for myself. My husband doesn't wear pajamas. My husband wears nothing to bed, except his underwear. And, my husband has a body like a Hollister mannequin. (He told me to say that.) I mighht get some fleece-lined jeans for Josh, too, because the snow, it is coming soon, and Josh loves to go sledding.

3. Black Friday is the unofficial kickoff to the holiday shopping season. When are you planning on beginning your holiday shopping?

~I plan to begin my Holiday shopping season the day before my sister, Lyn, comes to visit us with her fiancee, Jason, and their new baby, Zachary!!! from out of state. I can't wait to meet Zachary!!!

4. New Moon broke The Dark Knight's single day box office record. Are you planning on seeing this teenage vampire love story? If so: Team Edward or Team Jacob?

~ Already seen it! It's awesome!!! And, of course...Team Edward! I don't have any plans to see it a second time, though I do plan to purchase the DVD when it comes out. I want the DVD, and not the Blueray, so that I will be able to play it anywhere I go, whenever I feel the urge.

5. With so much information on the Web, how do you stay organized online?

~ I use bookmarks to mark pages I know I will return to. I also use my own email addresses to send certain things to myself when I want to store them in folders, and add a title. This allows me to organize similar things together in one folder. I have several of these folders in my briefcases at my various email providers. This way I don't use up my own computer's memory space.

6. What’s your daily Internet "routine?"

~ First, I check my email. Next, I read the news, the narratives, commentaries, and blogs about current events, domestic and global. Then, I log on to Yahoo Messenger to see if anyone is online. Finally, I begin to blog on my websites.

7. What’s the first thing you do when you log on to your computer every day?

~ The first thing I do is upload any photos off my camera I may have snapped the day before. I am always snapping photos, either with my phone, or my digital camera, so I always have to put them on my hard drive. Or else, I just go right to the internet.

8. If you could change one thing about your life, what would it be? What's keeping you from making that change?

~ I would change my income level. I don't know what is keeping me from making that change. I go to school, and I believe a degree will help me get a higher paying career. My husband also goes to school when he can. He already has a degree, but is working on a higher one. His current job does not pay very well, either. So, we both blog, as well, and we both love it.

9. What’s the perfect gift to give to the person who has everything?

~ The person who has everything, has no nothing, and so I will give that person some nothing. Just kidding. To the person who has everything, and even to people who don't, I like to give gift cards, or those re-loadable Visa cards you can purchase in the stores. That way, they can buyy whatever they want, and I never have to hear, "I already have one of these". I guess I am more practical than creative.

10. What’s the best Christmas gift you’ve ever received?

~ The best Christmas gift I ever received was a laptop from my husband. Because I love using it. I use it, of course, everyday blogging, and I don't know what I would do without it.

Soft as a Pumpkie Pie

This week’s theme for Heads or Tails reminds me of a soft Pumpkin Cheesecake pie I bought at Costco a few weeks ago. It was made with cheesecake and pumpkin which turns out very perfect. I love the combination actually, and since it is thanksgiving tomorrow, I am going to buy them again.

Heads Or Tails

And I have heard and even read it online that Paula Deen has a recipe for it and it is so easy to do:

Here's how to do it:

Crust:
• 1 3/4 cups graham cracker crumbs
• 3 tablespoons light brown sugar
• 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 1 stick melted salted butter
Filling:
• 3 (8-ounce) packages cream cheese, at room temperature
• 1 (15-ounce) can pureed pumpkin
• 3 eggs plus 1 egg yolk
• 1/4 cup sour cream
• 1 1/2 cups sugar
• 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 1/8 teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg
• 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
• 2 tablespoon all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

For crust:

In medium bowl, combine crumbs, sugar and cinnamon. Add melted butter. Press down flat into a 9-inch springform pan. Set aside.

For filling:

Beat cream cheese until smooth. Add pumpkin puree, eggs, egg yolk, sour cream, sugar and the spices. Add flour and vanilla. Beat together until well combined.
Pour into crust. Spread out evenly and place oven for 1 hour. Remove from the oven and let sit for 15 minutes. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 4 hours.

Now, I can’t wait to cook and try it, but I thought it is better to buy at Costco because it is fast and I don’t need to require too much work.

And, with the Holidays fast approaching, it sure would be nice to have more to spend on gift-giving, parties, great food, vacations, or any of the other things we love doing during the season.

Well, one good way to save money is by using green products that conserve many of the resources we use every day, like water. I’ll admit, I’m not really into the “going green” thing, but when I found out how much money I could save by going even “just a little green”, I suddenly got the urge to jump on that bandwagon. I found out about a green product to conserve water, and in such a simple way, it’s almost too good to be true. It’s called a dual flush toilet, and it can save hundreds of dollars. You don’t need to go out and buy a new toilet, though. The Dual Flush Conversion kit, by SelectAFlush, is available online at DualFlushKit.com. It’s a product you can install yourself into your existing toilets. With it, you have two options with every flush: liquid rinse when your handle is pushed to the left or full flush when you push your handle to the right. The Dual Flush Conversion kit saves water and therefore money, just like all Dual Flush Toilets, but without the huge cost of replacing your toilet, and for the plumber you would need to do that replacement. The Dual Flush Conversion kit is totally a DIY project, and installs easily in just minutes. And, it’s green, which I now know can save tons of money.

So, go a little green, save a little water, and start saving a lot of money. Just go to DualFlushKit.com, to order your Dual Flush Conversion kit today.

Sniff and Smell, Waiting in Line, Purchase and Place

>> Tuesday, November 24, 2009

1 - Sniff & Smell: With so many choices in the shampoo, laundry detergent, deodorant, and soap isles/sections of the grocery store, do you sniff or smell items before buying them, or do you base your purchasing decisions entirely off the name of scent as printed on the packaging?

~I always sniff. This is how I will know exactly what "fresh mountain spring air" smells like, since I have never actually been to a mountain spring and inhaled the air around it. And, this is how I will know exactly what a "rained-on barley field" smells like, since I don't really go out right after it rains. I don't like to get muddy.

Q2 - Waiting in Line: A friend recently chose to camp out overnight for a shot at being one of the first patrons at a new In-N-Out Burger near his home in Utah. What store or restaurant opening, sporting event, speech, etc. would you deem worthy enough to camp out overnight for?

~I always camp out overnight whenever I need to go to Secretary of State. Trust me, it's worthy enough when you take a number and it's in the single digits. And, this way, I don't have to take a full day off work just to go change my address.

Q3 - Purchase: What's the most recent item you purchased online?

~I purchased two tickets to see New Moon. Then, we couldn't go because we couldn't find a babysitter. So, we had to exchange the tickets for the next night, which was okay because it wasn't as crowded on the second night.

Q4 - Place: If I told you that a recent CNN online headline proclaimed "Right-wing activists storm TV station over 'bias,'" in which city and state would you guess this took place? Related: If you saw this same headline and learned -- by clicking through and reading the opening paragraph of the story -- that the report was out of New Delhi, India, would you feel mislead by CNN?

~If it was listed in their world news section, I would really wonder why the headline neglected to mention New Delhi. I might think CNN was hoping that many liberals might get the wrong impression, and then not even continue reading, thinking the story was from some city and state here in America, and go on assuming it was a story about a bunch of conservative republican disciples of Sarah Palin. And, knowing CNN, I would probably be right.

Love to Save Money! Who doesn't?

>> Thursday, November 19, 2009

It’s one month and three weeks before my son’s birthday and he is going to be 3 years old this time. A few weeks ago, I was wondering where I could celebrate his birthday party, until a friend told me about the best party location where 3 years old can enjoy and it is at Chuck-E-Cheese. So, I inquired about their birthday party about two days ago and they have indeed good deals on birthday party aside from that, they also have birthday party specials which I could save even more. So, now I am thinking about what date to set for his birthday party, and when I checked the calendar a while ago for January 2010, I was surprised because his birthday falls on Sunday which is a good thing because then I can still be able to save money on game tokens and stuff because they have birthday party specials at their website until April 2010. Aside from Chuck-E-Cheese savings, I also found some online coupons too which I usually do when I went shopping online because then I can save even more through the use of coupons or discount codes that is redeemable online when buying his gifts.

Now that I am all set and ready for a birthday party on January 2010 for our three year old boy, but now I have to find some great savings on toys or clothing for him as a birthday gift. Good thing I have found some online stores where I could get discount deals on toys and games because I was planning to give my son some new toys for a present, and I was searching now for a toy that he will love. I was thinking of getting him some Lego cars and trucks or maybe trains which is so perfect because I have found Lego coupons online where I could save on shipping.

In addition to that, I also find some cars, trains, and trucks at Kazoo Toys at very affordable prices. Then I could save 10% to 20% on toys too using Kazoo Toys coupons. Now, I don’t know where to get these cars, trains, and trucks but I will prioritize the stores where I could save more. Well, I guess, I have to find deals online or maybe something on sale as well. I better start shopping right now before they gone out.

Too Short and Posterity

I missed two theme for Booking Through Thursday due to our move last weekend, so now I am glad I was back on track.

btt button

Anyway, last week's question for BTT is:

Suggested by JM:

“Life is too short to read bad books.” I’d always heard that, but I still read books through until the end no matter how bad they were because I had this sense of obligation.

That is, until this week when I tried (really tried) to read a book that is utterly boring and unrealistic. I had to stop reading.

Do you read everything all the way through or do you feel life really is too short to read bad books?

~ Sometimes, I need to read the book because my friend gave it to me and I don't want her to feel and think that I don't like the book she/he gave to me. Although, I don't find the book very interesting. Sometimes, I just read them in purpose of having something to make me occupied as well, even though the book is utterly boring. I think life is too short to waste your time reading on useless books, so I guess it is better to read good and healthy books. I mean you can have choices what to read and what not.

And, this week question is:

Today’s question was suggested by Barbara:

Do you think any current author is of the same caliber as Dickens, Austen, Bronte, or any of the classic authors? If so, who, and why do you think so? If not, why not? What books from this era might be read 100 years from now?

~I never known the other two except with Dickens and I think there are no current authors that has the same ability as Dickens. But, I could relate him to the classic author named Edith Wharton and Anthony Troloppe both are English novelist because the way they made their stories and it seem like they have all the similarities in terms of plot and writing fictional stories.

TAILS - "Autumn Memory"

>> Tuesday, November 17, 2009

It's been a while since Heads or Tails stopped for a while due to some personal reasons, but now when I checked it, I was so surprised, it came back!

Heads Or Tails

And this week's theme is: TAILS - "Autumn Memory"

When I think about Autumn Memory, it reminds me of the day I arrived here in USA. It was October 2005 that I finally step down to the land of mitten, Michigan. I was kind an excited at that time since in my whole life, I never been to America. During those times, I saw how beautiful the tree foliage is and their beautiful colors of leaves that I can’t resist.

In addition to that I have funny experience autumn memory too. When my husband and I went for a grocery shopping, I look outside and it was sunny, I thought it was warm, so I didn’t wear a coat nor a jacket, but only a long sleeve Henley shirt. So, when I came out at the door, the gust of cold wind just hit me all over, and I was in shock. So, I quickly came back inside and my husband wondered why and I told him that it was cold and I need my coat. I never knew it could be sunny and cold at the same time until this day. It was absolutely an unforgettable Autumn Memory for me as well for my husband.

This is also the first time; I went to meet the rest of the family during Thanksgiving party where I can able to show how thankful I am at that time because I was finally here with my husband.

Trigger, Award, Top Secret and Read

It's time for Four for Friday and this week's questions are:

Q1 - Trigger: Do you have a trigger or tell-tale sign that you're about to get sick (i.e., that you're about to get the 24-hour flu, a massive headache, a fever, etc.)?

~Yes, mostly when I feel tiredness and sleepy eyes. Also, when I have a severe headache where I really need to sleep and rest.

Q2 - Award: If you could win any important or noteworthy award, would you choose the Heisman Trophy, a Pulitzer Prize, an Oscar, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, a Wimbledon or French Open championship, a Grammy, the American Academy of Arts and Letters Gold Medal in Graphic Design, World Series MVP, the Google Lunar X Prize, a Purple Heart, National Parent of the Year award, your company's employee of the year award, a Nobel Prize, the George Orwell Award for Distinguished Contribution to Honesty and Clarity in Public Language, something else entirely, or nothing at all?

~ All of the above, I would say...

Q3 - Top Secret: If any of the world's federal governments have evidence of extra-terrestrial visits to Earth, do you feel they have the right to keep it secret?

~I think so in order to keep the citizen of the country to be calm and not to worry about it. I guess, they have the right to keep it secret as long as it will bring good outcome to the country.

Q4 - Read: Two books that have already ignited firestorms are set to make their debut this month. Sarah Palin's Going Rogue: An American Life lands on bookstore shelves November 17, while Andre Agassi's Open: An Autobiography was released earlier this week. Do you plan on reading either of these books, and why?

~Yes, maybe Sarah Palin's book...

Vaccinations, Black Friday, TV Character and You

Q1 - Vaccinations: Do you think H1N1 vaccinations should be offered to Guantanamo Bay detainees or other prisoners serving time in jail for major offenses?

I don't think any necessary medical services should be denied to anyone, not even prison detainees. If the vaccine becomes necessary due to perhaps a danger of an H1N1 outbreak within the prison, then yes, I would think it would be necessary to vaccinate prisoners. The prison system is not exactly a closed system. Guards are always in and out everyday, and so an outbreak could reach surrounding communities.

Q2 - You 2.0: How concerned are you about your reputation online... very concerned, somewhat concerned, not concerned at all, I have no idea what you mean by "reputation online."

I'm somewhat concerned. Even though it's virtual, I still have an identity, and I think it's still important to make good friends and associates.

Q3 - Black Friday: If you don't enjoy the "thrill" of hitting the stores at 4:00 a.m. the day after Thanksgiving (to find the best deals on holiday gifts), some retailers are offering holiday-like deals right now. How likely are you to shop for holiday gifts before Thanksgiving?

Not likely at all. Once a last-minute shopper, always a last-minute shopper.

Q4 - TV Character: Who is your favorite TV character of all time? Can't name just one... how about your top three, five or 10?

Alf. He was a furry alien being that lived with an American suburban family after crash landing in their backyard. I loved that show as a kid. Even now, I have watched episodes on youtube.

Random Questions

1. What was your favorite class in high school? (And no, lunch doesn't count.)

My favorite class in high school was sex ed.

2. What's the longest you've ever waited in line?

When I was 10 years old, I waited like 4 hours to buy concert tickets to see Michael Jackson.

3. Are you prepared in case of a natural disaster? What do your plan and preparations include?

No. If one occurred, we would probably just lock ourselves in the basement, watch it on the news and eat chips.

4. What's the oldest article of clothing you own? Bonus points if you show us a photo!

I have shirts and pants from JCrew I bought 11 years ago. They are still like new. They were expensive when I bought them, but now I can see why. You really do get quality when you pay for it.

5. What are the can’t–live–without things on your web homepage?

My can't-live-without things on my homepage are all the things about me, my blog archives, and my ads.

6. How do you use the Internet to stay informed about the things that matter to you?

I go to news websites, like Newsmax and World Net Daily, Fox, and Sarah Palin's Facebook page.

7. Obama was elected a year ago today and has now been in office for almost ten months. How do you think he is doing? What's the best thing you think he's done so far? The worst?

I think he's doing badly. The best thing he has done is adopt Bush's Iraq and Afghanistan war policies. The worst thing he's done is lie a lot, especially about his socialized health care plan. He says it won't include abortion because there is nothing in it that says it will. But the problem is, since 1973, any government health care bill automatically includes abortion services. You don't need the bill to specify. In fact, Medicaid used to cover abortions, and there was no where in the bill that specified that it would. It wasn't until Medicaid was amended to specifically exclude abortions, that abortions were no longer covered. Obama is lying when he says this health care bill of his will not cover abortions. The reason we know it will cover abortions is because it doesn't specifically exclude them.

8. How old do you think children should be before they join social networks like Facebook and MySpace?

I think they should have to be 12 or 13. But, I also think parents should make the ultimate decision on how their children use the internet.

9. If you could only drink one beverage for the rest of your life (not including water), which one would you choose?

I would choose a lifetime supply of a cold and crisp, refreshing German lager

10. Have you ever returned an item to a store for a refund after having used it?

Of course. Once I bought a golf putter from Meijer. On the course, I got angry and broke the putter over my knee. I took it back to the store, and told them a huge lie, like I was just swinging it, and the weight of the putting end caused the shaft to break. I could tell they knew I was full of it, but they gave me a refund anyway. But, I shop at Meijer all the time, and it's probably becauuse they're so customer satisfaction oriented.

Surviving Mesothelioma Book

>> Monday, November 9, 2009

I am always on the lookout for enjoyable books. One topic of great interest to me is the one of holistic medicine or alternative treatments. In the past, I have read several of these types of books – a few stand out in my memory, like one book that makes a case for dehydration being the root cause of many diseases, and that drinking more water would prevent or even cure those diseases. These topics always catch my interest.

I also like reading about stories of surviving disease where holistic or alternative treatments are used. I recently came across a website about a book called Surviving Mesothelioma and Other Cancers: A Patient’s Guide. The book is written by Paul Kraus, a mesothelioma cancer survivor. Paul Kraus was given a few months to live, but, through holistic and alternative methods, with a tailored vegetarian diet and exercise, he has beaten the odds and has lived with mesothelioma now for 12 years. It looks like a great story, and I will be passing it on to my cousin, who is battling leukemia.

Anyway, the website where this book comes from is highly informative on the topic of mesothelioma and alternative treatments, including clinical research into alternative medicine, links to scholarly research sources, and documented clinical results. It’s a great source to learn little-known facts about mesothelioma asbestos lung cancer or to do a thorough comparative study on mesothelioma prognosis under conventional treatments versus alternative methods, and really see the difference! And, Mr. Kraus’ book only puts icing on the cake, as a prime example of why we need to invest more research time and dollars into alternative treatments.

I am sure all of you will love this site. So, check into it for yourself. Just click any of the links. Even if you don’t know someone battling the disease, we can all appreciate a great, heart-filled survivor story, and of course, plenty of scholarly information we can trust about a better treatment regimen for a disease that ravages so many people in our world. It’s better to be informed.

Mellow Yellow Monday: Yellow Toys

>> Sunday, November 8, 2009

It's my first time to join Mellow Yellow Monday. A weekly meme where you can share photos with a bit or a splash of "YELLOW".

MellowYellowMondayBadge

So, my first entry would be my son's toys. I asked myself one day, Why does some of kid's toys has a splash of yellow? Maybe because they got attracted to it easily or it is just lively color? So, I thought maybe because yellow gets your attention faster than any other color and people notice yellow objects first.

Some expert said, even when you are looking straight ahead, you can see a yellow object that is not in front of you "in the corners of your eyes" much sooner than any other color – even red. Scientists describe this as follows: "Lateral peripheral vision for detecting yellows is 1.24 times greater than for red."

Many experts also point out that colors such as yellow or greenish-yellow are more visible to the human eye under dimmer conditions compared to red. Now, I wonder why my son's toys (most toys) has yellow in them.

So, I took some of them and posted it here:

Older Friendship

It's time for my Sunday Snackie and this week's question is:

HOW OLD IS YOUR OLDEST FRIENDSHIP?

I have a few circles of friends at church, school, and at my work place. But, there's only few of them left until now. Some of which I met at the church and school. As far as I could remember, my friend Jurizel, Daryl, and Vivian, I met then when I was 16 years old. So, it's been almost 11 years that we had known each other. Then, at school, I have met a friend whom I have known since elementary, I have known her since we were 9 years old, and so now we have known each other for 18 years.

Recently, I just missed any communication to some of them because of my location. I truly missed them though and I really wanted to go back home and visit them.

Friday Question: What Scent?

If rain could fall in any scent, what scent would you want it to be?

~I love the smell of Japanese cherry blossom, and if rain could fall any scent, this would be the perfect one that I want. I would definitely gather a lot of bucket, pail or drum to grab some of these scent to be use anywhere. I wish it would happen, that would be amazing.

A cherry blossom is the name for the flower of cherry trees known as Sakura. In English, the word "sakura" is equivalent to the Japanese flowering cherry. Cherry fruit (known in Japanese as sakuranbo) comes from another species of tree.

Local Search Engine, just click away!

>> Saturday, November 7, 2009

I’m always looking for a better way to find what I’m looking for online. How do I define “better”? Well, I like a website that’s easy to use, yet fast and powerful, and gives relevant results. Basically, it gets the job done with the least amount of effort on my part.

I finally found a website that fetches what I need better. Are you searching for great pizza in Buffalo, NY? Hoping to find gourmet popcorn in Atlanta, GA? Need to fix a leaky roof in St. Louis, MO? There’s only one place to go, and that place is justclicklocal.com. Wherever you are in the country, justclicklocal.com is your route to finding what you need. Justclicklocal.com already knows where you are, so half the job is already done the moment you arrive at their website. So, it’s already faster than other sites! Then, all you need to do is tell justclicklocal.com what you need to find, be it pizza, popcorn, a roofer, or a clown for your kid’s next birthday party – whatever it is, justclicklocal.com will find it in your area. You can even look for specific names of businesses or operations, readily modify your search to look in neighboring cities, or click related searches from a ready-made list of suggestions. Justclicklocal.com is all you need, including simplicity, relevance, quickness and ease.

The large-scale search engines require more sleuth work on my part. I am the one to tell it where I am. I get back too many irrelevant results. Then, I have to sift through all those results to see if what I wanted is even there. If not, I have to do it all over again. Justclicklocal.com only gives local results, which means you’re on the road faster. They even provide a clickable map.
So, if you want a simple, fast way to find the things you need in your area, try justclicklocal.com today.

Intervention, Wrong Number, Friend: That's a Relief

Q1 - Intervention: If you could single-handedly have stopped one historically or noteworthy tragedy or event, what would you have stopped from happening?

I would have stopped the holocaust from happening, and Hitler's Nazi government in Germany.

Q2 - Wrong Number, But: If you dialed the wrong number and anyone of your choice answered and spoke with you for 30 interrupted minutes, whom would you choose to answer?

If I dialed a wrong number, I would want Oprah Winfrey to answer, and talk to me for 30 minutes. Because I would ask her what it's like to be one of the highest paid CEOs in the world.

Q3 - Friend: Who is your oldest friend in the world, and how and when did you meet?

Her name is Marilynn, and I have known her since I was 19. We met at church at a youth meeting in the Philippines. She sang at my wedding.

Q4 - That's a Relief: Name one thing that would make you sleep better at night (either literally or figuratively)?

One way I could sleep better at night is if I went running in the evening after dinner. If I run for like 3 or 4 miles, I would probably fall into bed that night and be out like a light.

Which do you prefer? Biographies written about someone? Or Autobiographies written by the actual person (and/or ghost-writer)?

~~I think I prefer both because a biography that was written by a real person is kind an interesting to read, I guess and more than just the biographies that were written by someone. Although, a lot of author these days, wrote a biography of other people which is interesting as well.

Worst Vacation Ever

What's the worst vacation you've ever taken?

= What's the worst vacation you've ever taken? = It happened about almost 8 years ago. I was with my friends at that time, and we went to a province in Surigao Del Sur in the Philippines. We never spent any money with this road trip; rather we went with someone who had a car to drive us all the way there. Actually, it is a trip where we can able to meet other members of our church. When we were there for a week, we can’t able to go somewhere because we don’t have any car, rather we should have to take a cab or maybe a tricycle, but that won’t let us to go back home. So, we are bored and never ever wanted to go back again because it was the worst and boring trip ever, although meeting with other church members is a good thing to do. So, my friends and I, were keep on talking about this trip, and we promised that if we go to a trip like this, we have to make sure we have our own money to go back home. So, we can go whenever and whatever we want as soon as possible.

The thing is, he also do a lot of stop over, and that made us so very bored.

In Need of a New Furniture

>> Wednesday, November 4, 2009

We are going to move into a new house again, and this time we are not going to bring some of our stuff, especially the old furniture that my husband had before we got married. I am kind an excited about the idea of moving into a new home, but sometimes, it made me sad because we are going to live our old stuff and then, we are going to be in need of a new furniture. Since we are moving into a farther place, it is impossible to move some of our furniture, so I look online if I can find some cheaper furniture that we can able to buy at very reasonable prices. Some of the things we need this time are a side table, a night stand, a coffee table and a new couch. I was thinking I might be able to do it by buying furniture online.

So, I went online and I have found this online store where I had found a wide selection of furniture that is perfect for our interior design. We had a white wall interior and so probably cherry or brown color furniture is perfect to fit in. I also found this elegant coffee table with hardwood Shinto range finished in rich mahogany, it has a cabinet which can be used as a room divider which is good enough for magazines or books. I can’t wait to tell my husband about it. I also have found some side tables and a large sofa which is luxurious in color. This is absolutely perfect for our new home.

Anyway, if you are looking for a perfect home furnishings needs, you can visit this website too because it is not only a furniture, but it is a website where you can able to find a wide selection of home furniture from various furniture stores online such as House of Fraser, Barker and Stonehouse, Debenhams, Heal’s, Furniture by CSN, and more. The best thing about this website, you can also decorate your own interior design with photo in 3D room matching with moodboard. To find out what I am talking about, you can visit this website today.

Overusing Words

>> Sunday, November 1, 2009

It's the weekend, the first day of November, and it's Sunday so, it is time for Snackie Sunday
meme for me. So this week's question is:

WHAT WORDS AND PHRASES DO YOU “OVERUSE”?

There are some words that I actually over using I never know that I were until I answered this type of question. Some of there words are:

1. Like - such as " I was Like" blah blah blah - "And he was like, 'Seriously?,' and I'm like, 'Yeah,' and he's like, 'No way,' and I'm like..." errrr....make it stop, but I can't every time I talk, could not help it. For some reason, "like" is more annoying than filler words such as "uh" and "um." Those filler words convey nervousness or low self-confidence. "Like" is, like, vacuous, but I can't help it, really!

2. You Know - I always used these words every end of the sentence. This one is ALMOST as bad as "like." To my dismay, "you know" is a dear friend of "like." They always hang out together. "It's, like, you know..."... it is so weird!

3. Whatever - I like this word! The problem with this word isn't just that it's overused. The biggest problem I have with "whatever" is that it expresses contempt and sometimes annoyance. It's dismissive, the verbal equivalent of rolling your eyes. Even if contempt is deserved, saying "whatever" rarely makes the speaker look good or show them the W sign using the thumb and point fingers of both hands.

4. Awesome - I love this word, if I need to exclaim that made me to wow! A lot of people say they HATE this one. They're all but screaming and tearing their hair out over it.

According to Dictionary.com, "awesome" is a word that means "inspiring awe." But what does "awe" mean? "An overwhelming feeling of reverence, admiration, fear, etc., produced by that which is grand, sublime, extremely powerful, or the like."

5. Ridiculous - such as "that's so ridiculous", if I find the thing not so so good. To learn more about this word: Ridiculous about this overused word is the number of times it’s used in everyday speak. Ridiculous means laughable, deserving of ridicule or something just downright preposterous. Now, while people tend to get the meaning (vaguely) correct for this one, four-syllable words like this are best saved for situations where things truly are absurd -- if your dog ate your homework, that’s ridiculous because it’s almost worthy of a laugh. There are better words to use than this tongue twister and no, “ri-donk-ulous” is not one of them.
